Cavan Monaghan Applies for Ice Storm Expense Relief

Ice storm damage on Larmer Line last March.

At the October 20th Council meeting Council supported a request by the Director of Finance/Treasurer Officer Kimberly Pope to apply for a grant to help offset expenses the municipality incurred during the March 2025 ice storm under a new program which pays out up to 75% of eligible expenses.

The municipality has identified eligible costs directly linked to their emergency response, clean up and infrastructure recovery efforts that exceed the normal operating budget limits and are not covered by their insurance. They are eligible for reimbursement under the new, Municipal Ice Storm Assistance Program recently launched by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. To expedite the grant application, Council delegated the authority to submit the application to Ms. Pope. If approved, the maximum reimbursement the municipality might receive is anticipated is $67,500.
