Jump into June

By Courtney Spence,

CM Libraries June is pride month! Help library staff celebrate by checking out our book display and grabbing your own pride pin (donations are appreciated to cover the cost of supplies). We will also be hosting pride-themed activities for a variety of ages throughout the month.

Starting on Tuesday, June 10th, stop by your local branch to grab a rainbow suncatcher kit. *While supplies last.*

Tween/Teen Programming

For our Tween/Teen programming this month, we are hosting a Build with Lego workshop on Tuesday, June 3rd from 4:30-6:30pm at our Bruce Johnston Branch. Each participant will be able to choose the Lego kit that they would like to build. There will be two kit options-a camera, recorder, and television OR a tyrannosaurus rex, triceratops, and pterodactyl. Each kit can be built into three separate designs. *Six kits are available. If you register and are unable to make it, please email Courtney attutor@cmlibraries.caso that your spot can be given to someone else.*

On Tuesday, June 17th, join us at our Bruce Johnston Branch from 4:30-5:30pm for our Tween/Teen Rainbow-Drop Tie Dye Workshop. To celebrate pride month, we will be using all of the colours of the rainbow to make a tie dye shirt. Participants will be learning a new technique that involves dripping dye onto a dry shirt to make a cool pattern. *Participants will need to bring their own shirt or other item to be tie dyed.*

Family/Adult Programming

When it comes to our adult programming, we try to come up with a mix of activities that we think our patrons will be interested in. This includes crafty workshops, informational workshops, and workshops that are just an opportunity to get together and chat. For our informational workshop this month, we will be having Christine (Service Canada) come to our Millbrook Branch on Wednesday, June 4th from 1:00-3:00pm. Christine will be discussing the benefits and programs that Service Canada provides adults over 60 as well as the Canadian Dental Care Program and how to apply or renew your coverage. A volunteer with Age-friendly Peterborough will also be onsite before and after the Service Canada presentation.

Tracy (A River of Yarn) will be coming to our Bruce Johnston Branch on Tuesday, June 10th from 1:00-3:00pm to show us how to crochet by making a rainbow coloured heart. All supplies will be provided and no experience is necessary.

Also on Tuesday, June 10th and back by popular demand, we will be providing the opportunity for patrons to try our VR headsets. Drop in anytime between 4:30-6:30pm at our Bruce Johnston Branch to show off your VR skills or learn for the first time. *There are 3 VR headsets and several iPads. Participants may need to take turns.*

Join us at our Millbrook Branch on Wednesday, June 11th from 1:00-3:00pm for Coffee & Conversation where we talk about “this, that and the other thing”. The aim of this program is to bring people together through conversation and coffee (or tea). Discussion in June will focus on climate change.
