Honky Tonk is Back!

Many years ago, the bar behind the Golden Wheel restaurant in Springville was a popular destination for adults looking for a place to unwind and have some fun.

Ann Nelson remembers those days and wanted to bring them back, and she has the energy, connections and vision to make that happen.

Ormie Francis took over the venue at the end of last year, and together with Ann, Lindsey Landry and Kelly Sargent, they are bringing it back to its glory days.  The spacious venue has a 200 person capacity and is getting a makeover inspired by Ann’s creative vision and some serious elbow grease.  Renovated bathrooms, fresh paint, country décor, new lighting and changes to furniture placement are establishing a fresh, welcoming environment as the new operators put their mark on this neglected space.

All of these ladies have day jobs, some of them more than one, so the bar is open primarily during the evenings and on weekends.  At the moment the venue is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 6pm.  Customers not interested in following their favourite sporting events on the newly installed large screen televisions can show their billiard skills or find a table to chat with friends at one of the large tables in the spacious venue.

During the week there is line dancing on Thursday and Friday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30. On Saturday evenings, local bands and deejays take the stage, providing the sounds of country music.

The venue is also available for private events.  Renters can use the bar service provided by management, purchase food from the adjacent restaurant, bring in their own or have their event catered by Kelly Sargent.

As the new operators get their bearings there will be new events to bring the party spirit back to the venue.  They are looking forward to their second New Year’s Eve bash after the success of last year’s event.  There will be late night snacks, party favours, champagne at midnight and live entertainment provided by local band 2/3 Ain’t Bad featuring the Metrow brothers whose country vibes will add to the party atmosphere.  Party-goers can organize safe transportation with a shuttle service lined up for the event.

The new name of the business is Honky Tonk Angel.  That final word is in honour of the original bar operator Joe Elward who created the original business which was so popular in the past.

Expect to see more special events including adult bingo, corn hole tournaments, Valentine’s, St. Patrick’s Day and Hallowe’en parties and more.  These ladies are just getting started.   For more information about private parties or to purchase tickets for New Year’s Eve, call 705-768-7643.  KG
