Millbrook resident Dan Horner is well-known in the local military ranks as a dedicated member of the CAF who invests heavily in the development of local youth in the Cadet program.
Millbrook resident Dan Horner spends a great deal of time with young adults as a member of the Cadent Instructor Cadre (CIC). He is one of the CIC officers who are military members working in the cadet program to help guide today’s youth to be tomorrow’s leaders.
His work with Canadian Cadets began in 2015 when he began to volunteer with the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corp (RCACC) in Peterborough. He was sworn in as an officer for that unit the following year. Training never stops for this energetic leader. He has completed a variety of courses and is a qualified marksmanship and biathlon coach as well as a Range Safety Officer for both air rifle and small bore rifle, a qualified Cold Weather leader and Mountain Bike Instructor. He is also a Red Seal Licensed mechanic.
After assuming command of the RCACC organization in Cambellford in 2021, he transferred to the Bowmanville Cadet organization where he continues today. For his day job, Captain Horner works for a department in the Federal government as an Information Technology security specialist.
Dan Horner, his wife Michelle and their two daughters are long time Millbrook residents. The notion of service is high on this family’s priorities: Michelle is a long-time Girl Guides leader and for several years Dan served as the School Council Chair at Millbrook South Cavan School in addition to volunteering with the Cadet program. We are grateful for the contribution of members of the Canadian military like Captain Horner who contribute to the development of a respectful community and a stronger nation. KG
