Pictured is the progress on the new fire hall as of last Friday.

Emergency vehicles will enter the building via an extension of Highlands Blvd which runs through the new Towerhill North subdivision, and exit the building directly onto County Rd. 10.  Last week, water and wastewater pipe was installed in front of the construction site to connect water services to the new facility.

The block section and the first bay on the left will house the satellite operation for Peterborough County – City Paramedics which will include office space, storage above and room for up to two ambulance vehicles nose to toe.  This organization has entered into a lease agreement with the township includes basic rent as well as operational costs related to expenses such as utility which will be allocated based on the square footage they occupy.

There are five bays for Fire equipment that are deep enough to store Fire trucks two deep within each bay.  The yellow area to the right is the Fire Administration entrance with office space and a training room in the rear.

According to the Site Manager from the builder and Chief Balfour, construction is proceeding well and barring any unforeseen delays, the facility is expected to open at the end of October.  With enough space to double the current fleet of emergency vehicles and the paramedic operation, this facility will ensure that the future needs of the community for fire and ambulance services are addressed for years to come.  KG
