Is a Heritage Conservation District right for downtown Millbrook?

This is the question that the Millbrook & Cavan Historical Society (MCHS) will be asking at their Community Forum on Thursday, May 25 at the Millbrook Legion Hall.

Your input is needed, but first you’ll want to know what’s involved. To answer all the questions, MCHS is putting together a panel of people who have experience and expertise in Heritage Conservation Districts, not just consultants but also business people, landowners and residents with first-hand knowledge of the process and the results.

This forum is part of our Annual General Meeting (AGM) which will begin with a barbecue and social get-together at 6:30 pm on the back patio of Millbrook Legion Branch 402.  The Legion will be providing hamburgers, veggie burgers, jumbo hot dogs, veggies and fries at $12 per person.  Beverages will be available from the Legion bar, and tea, coffee and dessert treats will be on the house, courtesy of MCHS.

At 7:30, after we quickly wrap up the business of our AGM, we will engage in a discussion with our panel of experts to gauge local interest in creating a Heritage Conservation District in Millbrook. We’ll look at examples such as Port Hope, Uxbridge, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Unionville, Oakville, and the Byward Market in Ottawa, and the effects that designation has had on tourism and quality of life. We will also look at the cost, and the process.

To help the Legion plan for the barbecue, please visit the MCHS website, millbrookcavanhs.org, and pre-register for this event.  We look forward to seeing you!
