Zucchini Festival Marks End of Summer Fun Drought

The fun drought is over! No more bored children withering at the end of the parental vine! The annual Millbrook Zucchini Festival marks the end of a particularly dry Millbrook summer, so mark Sept. 11, 12:30 to 4 p.m. on your calendars in green ink. As always the festival will be held on the sunny banks of Baxter Creek opposite the arena.

This year’s theme is Zukemon Go and features an extremely low-tech version of this popular activity, as conceived by the brains behind the annual Zucchini Festival. Further details will be announced closer to the event.

Also new this year will be an Open Mike feature at the music stage, where people are welcome to come and share their zucchini-related songs and poetry with the festival crowd. This will take the place of the Zucchini Poetry contest in order to give more people an opportunity to participate in the event.

Returning this year will be the Zucchini Festival Official Trebuchet, once again fascinating the mechanically-minded with its uncanny ability to toss projectiles far into the air and hit absolutely nothing. And this is addition to the much more useful Giant Zucchini Slingshot which will still be in lethal action as our Grand Finale!

Other than that it is the much-loved traditional line up of zucchini carving, bobbing, floating, and cooking mayhem we have all come to anticipate and enjoy, with the highlight always the action-packed zucchini boat races down Baxter Creek. Events and times will be soon posted at http://millbrookzucchinifest.blogspot.ca but in the meantime you can peruse the web site and see last year’s offerings with the confidence that it will be almost exactly the same. Or look for up-to-date information in September’s issue of the Millbrook Times.
