Welcome Leonard

Leonard L. Knott (Len to nearly everyone) began his career in journalism at age 17 when he signed on as a reporter for the University of Manitoba’s student newspaper, The Manitoban. On moving over to study journalism at Ottawa’s Carleton University, he took on the editorship of the undergraduate newspaper, The Carleton and for several summers, wrote for the business section of Montreal’s The Gazette.

During his last two years at Carleton, he brought back to life, as a weekly, bilingual newspaper, the then long-dead Knowlton Advertiser & Eastern Townships Chronicle. Then he went off to England to spend the next 3 1/3 years writing for Lord Beaverbrook’s broadsheet Daily Express and his tabloid Evening Standard, while moonlighting evenings at Reuters as re-write editor on the North American desk.

On returning to Montreal, he resumed publishing The Knowlton Advertiser, and began publishing and editing a travel magazine, Panorama, and a hotel guest magazine, The Elizabethan, for Hilton of Canada.

A few years later, he moved to Toronto to begin his long career in public relations and marketing communications.

Last summer, Terry McQuitty, Publisher of the Lakefield Herald, asked if he would like to fill in for his reporter who was going on leave for four months. He jumped at it and fell in love all over again with the newspaper business.  He has now joined The Millbrook Times to help on both the business and editorial sides of the newspaper.
