On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the popular Peterborough entrepreneurial social event, E-Connect, featured two successful business women as guest speakers for the evening, one of which created her business from home on a farm in Bailieboro. Leslie Scott, founder of Walton Wood Farm with her husband Peter, shared her story and the life experiences that lead her to create her own bath and beauty gift product line. From work sorrows to hardships at home, she explained their impacts on her life choices, and gave encouraging advice to the audience.

Organized by the entrepreneurial training partnership, FastStart, the E-connect event serves as a venue to bring business owners and entrepreneurs from all over Peterborough and surrounding areas together and provide them with opportunities to learn from one another, widen their business networks, and get valuable insight from more experienced innovative veterans. In Leslie’s case, her advice that evening focused on both the pursuit of aspirations despite the hard journeys and respecting one’s pre-established boundaries when making life decisions.

Walton Wood Farm has matured and expanded beyond its bath salt product line to include solid men’s colognes and several other soon-to-be-released bath and beauty lines. It has also successfully grown to proportions that not only distribute outside of the province, but also out of the country as it now ships to 50 states in the US.

Despite her success in recent years, Leslie has had her share of difficulties in life, but through it all, she claims that one thing really helped support her – a soothing bath after a long trying day. As she now shares her secret to coping with life through her line of “Bath Events”, she adds a little personal touch to the labels to sweeten the experience. As an award-winning writer, Leslie has a unique way of marketing her products on the store shelf. Her speech delivery that Tuesday evening was fun, engaging, relatable, and full of life. This style is also reflected on her labels as she shares a bit of her story on each product. Her goal in doing so is expressed simply as she states: “I want to make people smile and laugh when they pick up our product.”
