Turtle Rescue at Baxter Creek

Photo Karen Graham With water levels at record lows, several local residents and visitors took pity on the population of turtles in a tributary of Baxter Creek along Hutchison Drive on August 10th. After discussing the situation with the Ministry of Natural Resources, these gentlemen attempted to relocate the reptiles whose habitat was shrinking along with the animals’ food source. The intended recipients misinterpreted the rescue efforts and only one of an estimated 50 turtles were secured and moved a short distance away to main section of the creek. Fortunately a significant rain brought relief to the area but water levels remain extremely low.
