Recognizing Local Leaders: County Recognition Award Nominations Open

It’s that time of year again where we identify local groups and individuals who are making extraordinary contributions to our community.  Nominations for exemplary residents are open until March 15th, so get out your pencils/tablets/computers and fill in a nomination form.  The categories are broad, ranging from acts of heroism, entrepreneurial initiatives, and leadership in areas including agriculture, volunteering, sports, culture and environmental protection, with the caveat that nominees shall not have received a County Recognition Award for a similar category within the past fifteen years.

Established in 1992, the County has annually recognized residents in a variety of categories, with some recent additions to the list such as an award for Accessibility recognizing a Peterborough County resident who has contributed to accessibility improvements within the region.  The environmental leadership award has an emphasis on sustainability, focussing on environmental stewardship exhibited through the development of green technologies, establishing businesses that encourage sustainable living, ecosystem restoration and research, land donations for conservation purposes and environmental education activities.

Nomination forms are available at the County of Peterborough offices, at all Municipal Offices, schools, libraries, the Chamber of Commerce and Community Care organizations.  Nomination forms may also be completed online at the County website www.ptbocounty.ca.   Recipients are selected by County Council and decisions will be announced in May.  The Recognition Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. and will be hosted by the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan.
