A private fundraising event organized by Peterborough City Councillor Pat Parnell and hosted by Galerie Q last month raised $8000 towards YES shelter for youth and family’s “Raise the Roof” campaign.

The organization has set a $50,000 fundraising campaign target to allow them to replace the roof on their aging facility located at 196 Brock Street in Peterborough.   YES is an emergency program operating 24 hours a day, every day, by providing shelter, education and transitional supports for youth and families in Peterborough and the Kawartha’s. They served 248 new clients last year, an increase in new clients of 21%. In addition to emergency housing, the organization supports youth and families through longer term transitional housing, the delivery of transitional life skills, alternative high school and vocation education, assistance with employment searches and an emergency food cupboard. The event included testimonials from two guest speakers who reinforced the critical role this organization plays in the community and a raffle draw for an original work from Quebec artist Nathalie Voisine donated by Galerie Q.
