At their meeting last week, ORCA’s Board of Directors approved a recommendation to award Hatch engineering firm a contract for the design and the procurement of construction services for the reconstruction of the Millbrook dam. Hatch has been involved with the project since last fall when the firm was retained by ORCA to provide the structural solution to bring the dam’s hydraulic capacity up to the level required under new legislation. An employee-owned professional services firm based in Mississauga with 9,000 employees operating in 150 countries, the engineering firm has been recognized by their peers and beyond in areas including project excellence, corporate leadership, health and safety, and philanthropy.
Over the next few weeks the details of the contract will be completed and the proposed timelines for the work is as follows:
- Design completed by the end of January 2017,
- Procurement of construction completed by the end of July 2017,
- Construction to begin after July 2017 and is anticipated to take 15 months.
The start date for construction is dependent on receiving all regulatory approvals in a timely manner. The public will be provided an opportunity to view the final design in January 2017. KG
