In his introduction to the community, Chief Murray Rodd expressed pride in his organization selection as the service provider of choice for our township, and summed up the philosophy behind the operations of the Peterborough Police force through the words of Sir Robert Peel.  Peel organized the first Metropolitan police force in London, England in 1829 and is recognized as the father of modern policing, and based his organization on the principle that ÈThe police are the community, and the community is the police.È  Behind those words is the notion that community safety is everyoneès responsibility.  In other words, the police expect us to do our parts, by taking precautions like locking doors and vehicles, remaining vigilant for unusual or suspicious behaviour and communicating any concerns.  By focussing on crime prevention, our new police force hopes to assist community members to become aware of their own safety and to be proactive in the reduction of crime and eliminating the opportunity for crime.   To this end, there is a strong interest in working in partnership with residents as well as our local Community Policing organization to establish a balance of law enforcement, problem solving and crime-prevention initiatives with all stakeholders to secure peopleès rights, lives and property.
