Peterborough: With the fall hunting season only weeks away, Otonabee Conservation is reminding hunters that hunting opportunities are available on specific conservation lands and that hunters will need to apply for permission to access the properties.
“Over the years there has been more interest by hunters to access conservation lands for hunting. Otonabee Conservation has identified eight properties where hunting is allowed and requires hunters to apply for a permit to hunt on the land,” explains Jessie James, Manager of the Conservation Lands Program for Otonabee Conservation.
Among the conservation lands available for hunting is the Birdsall Wildlife Area, Darling Wildlife Area, Cavan Swamp Wildlife Area, Douro Forest Block, Dummer Wildlife Area, Otonabee Conservation Agreement Forest, Sawer Creek Wildlife Area and the Squirrel Creek Conservation Area. James points out that there are some restrictions that apply when hunting on the properties and hunters are advised to become familiar with the opportunities and restrictions before heading outdoors.
James recommends that hunters visit the Otonabee Conservation website (at www.otonabeeconservation.com/outdoor-recreation/activities/hunting/) where they will find the “Hunting Permit Application Form” and “Hunting Opportunities Fact Sheet”. The completed application form, along with a copy of their valid Hunting Outdoors Card and proof of membership in the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, is to be submitted to Otonabee Conservation in order for a Hunting Permit to be issued.
