Millbrook Valley Chocolates Bring Tasty Workshop to Millbrook Library

The Fancy Nancy and Nick “Chocolate Edition” Tea Party took place Saturday May 27, 2017 at the Millbrook Branch, it was such a delight!

We invited Millbrook Valley Chocolates to come and collaborate with the Library. It was a great fit, as the owners, Stephen and Jackie Flamminio have a passion for books and sharing their love for chocolate. The Cavan Monaghan Libraries has an annual Fancy Nancy and Nick Tea Party each year, and this time we spiced it up with a chocolate workshop presented my Millbrook Valley Chocolate! We served white and chocolate milk, an assortment of teas including a chocolate chia tea in fancy fine china tea cups, and decadent treats to accompany our tables.

Millbrook Valley Chocolates did a wonderful presentation on the history of chocolate, and had everyone test testing different kinds of chocolate, from raw chocolate right through to dark chocolate. The children were surprised at the bitter taste of the raw chocolate – it was a great learning experience. Stephan and Jackie then had the children and adults make their own white chocolate bark. They had prepared the white chocolate, scooped it onto plates and then provided a large assortment of sprinkles, chocolates, jelly beans, and chewy candies to allow everyone to make their own signature bark. Once the chocolate set, it could be broken into pieces and enjoyed! It was a success! There was talk between the Cavan Monaghan Libraries and Millbrook Valley Chocolates about future collaborations, so stay tuned for future Chocolate Workshops at the Cavan Monaghan Libraries!

June is going to be all about activities for the Cavan Monaghan Libraries. June 1st and 2nd, there is regular Storytime. However, also on June 1st Mrs. Morton’s, a teacher at South Cavan Public School will be coming to visit the Millbrook Branch for a tour of the Library to talk about why the Library is important to our community. There will also be a story and craft to accompany the visit.

June 8th there is no Storytime at the Bruce Johnston Branch, instead families are invited to come to the Millbrook Fair for Children’s day! The Cavan Monaghan Libraries will be reading a story and offering a craft to celebrate Canada’s 150 year Anniversary. June 9th is a PA Day and regular Storytime will take place at the Millbrook Branch.

June 15th and 16th Storytime will celebrate Father’s Day with stories about Dad’s and a craft to take home. The following weeks in June Storytime will run as scheduled, with a STEAM based program of stories and play. Drop in for a visit- there is a lot more at your library than books.
