A team selected from players of the Peterborough Seniors Hockey Club won the gold medal in the over 65 division, at the 2017 Ontario Seniors Winter Games held in Cobourg Ontario. The team finished the preliminary round with 2 wins and a tie which qualified them for the semi final game which they won 2-1 with a dramatic goal scored with 4 seconds remaining in the game. In the gold medal game they again used last minute heroics with Gene More scoring with 35 seconds remaining to pull out a 1-0 game victory over the Georgetown region team. Goaltender Mel Lawrence was outstanding in the tournament allowing only 4 goals in the 5 games played. This performance qualifies the team to participate in the Canadian Senior Games which will be held in St. John, New Brunswick in August of 2018.
