He recognizes the importance of family support in his success, as the job takes him away from home at all hours of the day and night. There is no hesitation when the pager rings, whether it happens in the middle of a birthday party or Christmas dinner, when duty calls, fire fighters respond!

Woodward earned the promotion by distinguishing himself in a number of ways. He took his fire education very seriously, taking extensive firefighting courses above and beyond those mandated. According to Fire Chief Bill Balfour, Woodward’s personality is also an attribute for his new position. With a friendly, sociable demeanor that puts colleagues at ease, he is all business when the alarm rings, bringing focus to the tasks at hand. His common sense approach to work is also welcome in this stressful environment. Balfour was pleased at Woodward’s appointment, referring to it as a success story for the candidate and as well as the local department where Woodward developed his expertise.

Working for the Fire Department gave Woodward an appreciation of the importance of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. The current prevention program about the “beep” resonates with him, as experience has taught him that once a fire starts there is not a lot of time to get out. He advises residents to keep attuned to these alarms, as “the sooner you hear the beep, the better chance you have to get out.” Congratulations, Matt and while we hope never to meet you in a time of need, it is reassuring to know you’re there.
