Letter to the Editor #1

Dear Editor,

We moved to Millbrook five years ago this week. One of the main considerations in choosing Millbrook was its complete services provided to its population. We were pleased to find a small town with a post office, drug store, grocery store, service Ontario office and of course very importantly a bank.

The first thing my wife did upon moving here was open an account at the TD Branch.

As we are seniors we knew that eventually the day would come that we may no longer be able to drive and having these services within walking distance was very important to us.

We were shocked by TD Bank when we saw the signs in the branch windows that they would be closing in August this year.

In a time when the big banks are accumulating billions of dollars in profits it is unconscionable that they have chosen to abandon smaller communities like Millbrook just to squeeze a few more dollars for their bottom line.

I am pleased to have heard our Mayor Scott McFadden and council have taken a stand on this matter and are offering to shift Township business to any bank that will provide service to Millbrook.

Kudos to the Mayor and council.

Thumbs down to TD Bank.

Yours truly,

Mary and Jim Benson
