It Takes A Village

By Anita Huntley

We have new neighbours in Millbrook, and a family reunited after twenty-three years of separation.  On May 18th, Millbrook’s Nena Dumpit was finally joined from the Philippines by her husband Pio, daughter Vanessa and grandson McVhiel.  They have all been granted permanent residency in Canada after six years in the immigration process.

It’s a love story of global proportion that started in one far-away village and brings the Dumpits back together in a new one.  Nena and Pio met in high school in the village of Talugtug, situated in the rolling hills of the province of Nueva Ecija, in the Central Leuzon region of the Philippines.  They married and had their first child in 1981, eventually followed by three more.  Vanessa is their second youngest.
