Get out! Baby Birds Everywhere!

By: Glen Spurrell

Every year I hope I will be lucky enough to see the fledgling wrens leave the nest. The other day I was walking around the garden when I heard an odd sound. Surely, I thought, the wrens can’t have left the nest yet; in fact the adult wrens were making distress calls. Then across the yard shot the resident robin and out of a bush erupted a whole family of grackles. The sound I had been hearing was the young ones “cawing” for food. I can’t imagine that the wren or the robin thought they presented any danger–but better safe than sorry!
