Local food prepared with pride was on sale at Sunday’s Farmer’s Market

The Market in Millbrook was lively and well attended judging by all the cars and the people strolling around. A young couple was trying the cinnamon buns which looked so appetizing it would have been easy to ask for a bite. They agreed that it was a wonderful new food group all by itself and their enjoyment was evident.

Offerings were plentiful. There were lots of plants at superb prices: $5.00 a pot from a number of vendors:   raspberry bushes, rhubarb, and flowers of all kinds. The smoked trout had small tastings out and if you love smoked fish it was to die for. There were lots of yummy preserves, maple syrup and honey, a pizza emporium to buy lunch and full meals with jerk chicken and more. The carrot cake was full of raisins, cranberries and lots of tasty things. Meat was also available plus pulled pork and other sandwiches. The fresh daffodils looked so beautiful.

The Puddleduck Farm provided both a stall with their traditional organic and local wares and told about their CSA plan. This sounds like such an awesome way to get a basket of fresh produce for 20 weeks from $400 to $600 and how better to support the future of farming and young farmers. To top it all off, to everyone’s delight, there was a five piece band of upbeat music to cheer the market-going hearts.

Market Day is a joyous day and what better way to meet friends and neighbours, meet new people and to have something special for the table. You know where it came from and you know that it was made by someone who cared.
