Despite New Ownership, it’s Business as Usual at Nexicom

Nexicom offices are staying put after the business is sold to a new owner

Monday afternoon Nexicom staff learned that owners Paul and John Downs had entered into a share purchase agreement to sell their business to Clayton Zekelman of Windsor.   Zekelman is the founder and President of a similar high-speed internet and telephone business in Windsor called MNSi Telecom operating in southwestern Ontario, so he is very familiar with the industry. Despite this other investment, staff was assured that the operations of Nexicom will remain independent, and the new owner intends to continue with the branding, staff, physical locations and daily operations that exist today. The Downs are expected to remain involved with the business on a consulting basis during the transition period for roughly one year after the deal closes, which is expected to happen in the next few months.

This is a good news story for all parties. For the Downs brothers, they have secured the future of the family business they have nurtured together since they took on their father’s business in 1978 at the time of his death. They have taken the small family-owned telephone company and transformed it into a diversified business in the telecommunications industry, offering high speed Internet access, local and long distance Telephone service, and the latest Digital TV and Security technology and can now look forward to retirement.

Management and staff are excited to remain an independent service provider, with new leadership offering the potential for growth that includes their participation.

The community can expect to see a community-minded business owner who will continue to be a generous partner in community events, activities and initiatives. The service packages and delivery will remain in place as there are no immediate changes planned.

Welcome to Millbrook, Clayton Zekelman! KG

  1. Margaret Hamilton says:

Sorry, the skeptical side of me is now in ‘wait and see’ mode. We have Nexicom and have been so pleased for the most part with every facet of this company, but especially the staff. My only complaint has been no weekend support. For the founders, I understand you want some reward for all your hard work over the years, but very few places stay the same once they are sold. Like I said, ‘wait and see’
