Country Kids in the City for the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Convention

In my role as Senior Millbrook Fair Ambassador, I represented our Agricultural Society last week in Toronto at the 2016 Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) which was held at the Fairmont Royal York hotel in downtown Toronto. It was a gorgeous hotel, and it felt like the country came to the city. There were kids wandering around the downtown area wearing cowboy boots and crowns. A lot of people asked what we were doing there.

It was a huge annual meeting where all Fair Boards across Ontario are invited to attend, including their senior ambassador. There were many different events that took place at the convention, with entertainment, guest speakers, a live auction, and much, much more.

There was entertainment each evening showcasing different acts that can perform at your local fair. Another very helpful presentation came from the Fair Ambassador Matt Garwood who talked about his experience running to be the ambassador. He was very clear about what happens and he was such a great speaker. My favourite acts were the two groups that played the fiddle while tap dancing. I was amazed!

Almost 90 different fair ambassadors participated in the event, and every single one I met is doing amazing things in their communities. I met all the local fair ambassadors in District 4 and I can’t wait to attend their fairs this summer.

Overall my time at the 2016 annual OAAS Convention this past weekend proudly representing the Millbrook Agricultural Society was a great and very educational experience and I’d like to thank the Millbrook Agricultural Society for the experience of being the fair ambassador of 2015-2016.

See you all at the 2016 167th Millbrook Agricultural Fair!
