Council Approves Proposal to Sponsor Local Blood Services Provided by Lifelab

At last week’s council meeting, Council agreed to waive user fees for the use of township facilities to Life Labs for the delivery of blood services.  Since last fall, residents in the area have had to travel to Peterborough to get bloodwork done.

This model has been implemented in other communitiesincluding Omemee, Lakefield, Norwood and Buckhorn, where  Lifelabs provides specimen collection services for those with requisitions for laboratory testing from Ontario healthcare practitionersusing space provided free of charge by the municipality.   In their request, the firm proposed to offer services two mornings per week. Lifelabs will provide all materials, equipment and staff required for the collection and testing of samples, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations, including thesafe removal of all materials used in the collection process and the protection of privacy of personal health information of patients…
