It’s a family affair for participants at the Country Mile Charity event.

Parents, grandparents, children, teachers, principals and friends joined together early on May 13th to walk or run along Zion line in Cavan Monaghan for a short stroll or a 10K run in support of a local organizations.

Conditions were cool with some drizzle, just enough to keep participants comfortable as the headed down Zion Line to complete their choice of a 1k, 3k, 5k and 10k walk or run on routes that kept participants on township roads away from traffic.

The event began in 2006 as a fundraiser to help build the new hall & community center attached to the current church structure which opened in 1867 and with a seating capacity of 200 people. After six years of work and much support from the community, the congregation opened the doors to this new hall in 2012.

Members of the congregation’s Women’s Group decided to continue this event and direct the proceeds to the breakfast programs at local schools and for several years operated a Fun N’ Run club at Millbrook Public School to encourage the participation of local school children.

This year, 40 participants made their way along their selected routes, raising a total of $1850. Half of the proceeds will be donated to the breakfast programs at North Cavan and Millbrook South Cavan Public School, with the remaining used by Centreville Presbyterian Church to support their Youth Mission trip in 2019 to Belize. The event also received sponsorship from local organizations including Cavan Agri-Services, Town & Country Lawn Maintenance, Squirrel Creek Farm, and Todd Equipment. KG
