Celebrating Yvonne Clark

by: Karen Graham

Monday April 28 marked another retirement for local fireball, Yvonne Clark. For roughly 30 years, Yvonne has been the organizer for the local adult volleyball club which operates on Monday evenings from September to April at Millbrook South Cavan School. It’s a location she knows well as its former librarian. The group plays a “pick-up” version of the sport, choosing teams each week from those who arrive. Players are high school age and older, and depending on the weather there can be as few as 6 players to enough to field 3 teams. It is all for fun and exercise: they do not take part in tournaments or keep records, keeping the atmosphere fun for all levels of play. At $40 a season, it is the best sports value in the township, a fact which is not lost on the participants, some of whom drive from Peterborough and Bethany for the weekly event.
