Cavan Monaghan Awarded OPWA Project of the Year

Staff from the Township of Cavan Monaghan attended the Ontario Public Works Association’s (OPWA) Annual Conference Awards Luncheon to receive the 2016 Project of the Year Award for Small Municipalities.

The OPWA is a not-for-profit organization of professional public works practitioners, whose  awards program recognizes outstanding individuals, groups and organizations representing the best in the public works profession.  Reserved for Municipalities with a population of 25,000 or less, the Project of the Year Award for Small Municipalities promotes excellence in the management and administration of public works projects by recognizing the alliance between the managing agency, the consultant/architect/engineer, and the contractor.

“The completion of this intricate project was very gratifying but to have it recognized and honoured by your peers is really overwhelming” said Cavan Monaghan Director of Public Works Wayne Hancock. “A project of this size and magnitude would not move forward without the skill and dedication of a great team of professionals and I am thrilled to be sharing this award with such a skilled group.”

The Township shared the spotlight with Consultants R.V. Anderson Associates Limited and Eramosa Engineering Inc. along with contractors Maple Reinders Constructors Ltd, H2Ontario Inc. and Eagleson Construction all of which designed and constructed various upgrades throughout the Township.

This project was the largest for this Township and centred around three primary contracts; the Millbrook Water Storage Tank and Booster Pumping Station, the Sanitary Sewer and Watermain on Tupper Street and Centennial Lane and the Millbrook Wastewater Treatment Plant Capacity Upgrades.

“As our Community continues to grow so do the needs for adequate infrastructure” says Township of Cavan Monaghan Mayor, Scott McFadden.

The project was made possible through the Building Canada Fund, a federal and provincial cost-sharing program designed to address national, regional and local infrastructure priorities. Specifically, it represented an over $21 million dollar investment with the federal, provincial and municipal governments each contributing 1/3rd of the cost to complete the project
