Believe In The Power Of Youth

At Millbrook South Cavan Public School, we have proven that anyone can make a difference when we work together. The MSC Me To We group has met two major goals in 6 years – providing a $5,000 well in Dos Palais, Haiti and a $10,000 goal of building a school in Kenya. Our WE team of 45 students and 3 staff advisors has also put together a fundraiser for a parent at our school, Jennifer Puk and raised close to $1,000 for her stem cell treatment for Multiple Sclerosis. She came in and shared her story with the Me To We group and she is now experiencing a steady recovery.

Here are some other Me to We activities and accomplishments that have made a difference in our local and global communities:

  • Raised tens of thousands of dollars for Cops for Cancer to aid in Pediatric Cancer research
  • Held food drives 2x per year for the Millbrook and District Food Share
  • Received Peterborough County Youth Award for Excellence in Community Service
  • Partnered with Centennial Place for 5 years, providing meaningful connections between residents and students
  • Planned many school spirit days, dances and other fun events like an egg nog flipping contest
  • Planned annual Vow of Silence Campaign to raise awareness for issues facing children around the world

The MSC Me To We club is now focusing on reaching a new goal in India called ‘Opportunity’. This pillar helps provide skills to help families improve their quality of life, by teaching them alterative income sources (such as beading or animal husbandry) so their children can attend school rather than having to work to help support the family.

The Millbrook South Cavan Me to We Club truly does believe in the power of youth to have an impact in our school, our town and our world. “Together, we can make a difference.”
